Twilight is the cheapest legitimate golf in Calgary. Most courses drop their rate sometime between 2pm and 5pm in summer, and for the price of a paperback you can play 18 (or a brisk 14, if the sun beats you). What follows is every Calgary course's twilight rate, when it starts, and how it stacks against the weekday morning price.
The math: in May–June, sunset is around 9:45pm, so a 4pm twilight is a real 18 holes if you're walking. By late July sunset is at 9:15pm, still enough time. By September you're cutting it close for an 18 unless your group keeps moving. Cart pace makes a difference; walking in May? Bring a flashlight on the back nine if you're slow.

The three rules of twilight golf in Calgary.
1. Cottonwood is the best value, but the drive matters.
Cottonwood drops to $45 after 4pm — a 53% saving on the day rate, the deepest discount in the city. The catch: it's 24 km southeast of downtown Calgary in DeWinton. Forty minutes door-to-tee on a normal day. If you're already on the south side, it's the best math in the city. If you live in Bowness, factor the gas money.
2. The 4pm cutoff is a real constraint in May.
Most twilight rates kick in at 4pm. In May–June, you've got 5.5 hours of golf time before it gets dark. Walking 18 takes 4 hours minimum on a paced course; in a cart, 3.5. If you're playing Cottonwood at 4:15pm in early May, you'll either finish in the dusk or skip the back-9 par-4. By July you've got 5 hours easy.
3. Heritage Pointe is the steal at 5pm.
Heritage Pointe rarely shows up in twilight conversations because it's the most expensive day rate in Calgary semi-private at $110. But the after-5pm rate is $65 — that's a 41% discount, $45 saved per round, on what's arguably the best course conditioning in metro Calgary. If you've got a group of three and you can leave work at 4:30pm, this is the best Saturday-night-substitute round in the city.
What this page won't tell you.
Course-level rates change. Some courses run weekend twilight specials (rare, usually 5pm onwards). Some have weekday-only twilight. Some change rates mid-season as conditions change. We update weekly on Monday morning — if you see a rate here that doesn't match what the pro shop quoted you, the pro shop is right and we'll fix it the following Monday.
If a Calgary golf course has twilight rates that aren't shown here, they're probably not advertised, the course doesn't offer them, or the course doesn't actually want twilight golfers. Some semi-privates and most privates fall into that last category. Earl Grey and Calgary G&CC don't run twilight specials because their members are already on the tee at 5pm.
Junior twilight.
Junior golfers (under 18 with a valid junior pass) get further discounts at most public courses after 5pm — typically half the twilight rate. Maple Ridge and McCall Lake both offer $14–18 junior twilight. Calgary First Tee has a free junior twilight program at McCall Lake, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, for kids learning the game.
This is the cheapest legitimate way for a Calgary kid to learn golf. If you've got an 11-year-old and clubs that fit, McCall Lake at 5:30pm on a Tuesday in June is the entire entry point.
