How a Calgary kid learns the game
Every junior golf program in metro Calgary, sorted by age range and price. From free First Tee programs at city courses to summer camp packages at semi-private clubs. Built once. Updated every spring.
If you've got a kid in Calgary who's interested in golf, the entry point is cheaper than you think. The City of Calgary's First Tee program at McCall Lake is free. Most public-course junior memberships are under $300. Summer camps at semi-private clubs run $400–800 for a week, often less than hockey camp.
What follows is the full menu. We've organized by program type so you can see the path: first-tee for absolute beginners, weekly clinics for kids developing a habit, summer camps for the deep dive, and junior memberships for the ones who want to play four times a week.

Weekly clinics and leagues
Calgary Junior Linkster League
Rotating courses · Ages 9–17 · $275 / season
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday weekly play at rotating city courses: Maple Ridge, McCall Lake, Lakeview, Shaganappi, and Confederation Park. Multiple skill divisions so beginners aren't matched against low-handicappers. Runs June through August with a year-end championship at McKenzie Meadows.
Shaganappi Junior Saturday League
Shaganappi Point · Ages 11–16 · $185 / season
Saturday morning 9-hole rounds with an adult supervisor. Runs May through September. Low-pressure format — good for kids who want regular play without the tournament structure.
Junior memberships
City of Calgary Junior Pass
5 city courses · Under 18 · $295 / season
Unlimited play at all five City of Calgary courses: Maple Ridge, McCall Lake, Lakeview, Shaganappi, and Confederation Park. Walking only. The best dollar-per-round value in the city if your kid plays more than ten times a season.
McKenzie Meadows Junior Membership
McKenzie Meadows · Under 18 · $650 / season
Unlimited play after 3 pm on weekdays and anytime on weekends. A step up from the city pass — better-maintained course, more challenging layout, and a junior community that skews toward competitive players.
Cottonwood Junior Member
Cottonwood · Under 18 · $1,250 / season
Full course access during peak hours, driving range, locker, and family-membership add-on pricing. This is the path most Alberta Junior Tour players follow — the club actively supports competitive junior golf and has a direct pipeline to college recruiting showcases.
The recommended path
If your kid is brand new (no clubs, never played):
Start with First Tee at McCall Lake. It's free, equipment is provided, and there's zero financial risk. After one summer you'll know whether they want to keep going or whether the interest was a passing phase. Either outcome is fine.
If they've done a beginner program and want more:
One summer camp (McKenzie Meadows or similar) plus the City of Calgary Junior Pass. Total cost roughly $890 for the season. They'll be playing 9 holes regularly by August and will have a basic swing that doesn't need to be rebuilt later.
If they're targeting junior tour or college golf:
Junior membership at McKenzie Meadows or Cottonwood, plus a premium camp (Heritage Pointe Academy) and CGA Junior Development for tournament structure. Annual cost $1,500–2,500 depending on the combination. This is the path most Alberta Junior Tour players follow, and it's still a fraction of what competitive hockey or figure skating costs at the same level.
